Weronika Anna Rosa is a visual botanical artist who explores the relationship between plants and humans. Originally from Poland, she is currently based in Lisbon, Portugal. Growing up in a family of scientists and artists, Weronika was surrounded by fresh flowers and potted plants, which naturally became the central theme of her work. She uses gouache on Kraft paper and Japanese golden ink to bring her visions to life.

Watarai Toru, based in Kanagawa, Japan, has made a name for himself in the world of ikebana, the ancient Japanese art of flower arranging. Initially crafting bamboo vases, Toru’s interest soon shifted to the art of ikebana itself. In 2002, he enrolled in the renowned Ohara school in Tokyo, deepening his understanding of this traditional craft.

Her work is inspired by her experiences of nature and “awe” as a highly sensitive queer woman. Kate explores nature in search of the sublime. She travels around the world documenting her intimate observations through writing and photography, as well as working with florist Samuel Thomas to create floral dioramas in her studio that are lit and photographed for reference. In her photographic essay The flower project, Oriane Zerah, a photojournalist based in Kabul, shares her sense of beauty, placing it in the most unexpected of places, allowing a renewed understanding of Afghanistan and its people. The relationship between Afghanistan and flowers is decades old, with the country cultivating poppy, saffron and roses. In Afghani culture, red roses symbolise friendship while white means forgiveness. Ironically, flowers were nearly wiped out during the previous Taliban regime as gardens were left with no one to tend them to.
